DISASTER SERVICES TRAINING COURSES
Client Casework: Providing Emergency Assistance Basic Course
An introduction to the Client Casework activity, this class teaches the skills and tools needed to conduct an effective client interview. Prerequisite: Disaster Services Overview
Collaborating to Ensure Effective Service Delivery Basic Course
The purpose of this course is to prepare Red Cross employees and volunteers to establish collaborative relationshi ps that contribute to coordinated disaster response and help to ensure effective service delivery. This course will also prepare participants to begin conducting liaison activities in a chapter and establish a foundation upon which they can build toward a career as a liaison in the Disaster Services Human Resources (DSHR) System. Prerequisite: Disaster Services Overview
Community Disaster Education Instructor Specialty Course
The purpose of the instructor specialty course is to prepare instructors to teach Community Disaster Education worksho ps ensuring uniform, quality activities consistent with the goals and directions American Red Cross Community Disaster Education. This course provides opportunities for practice teaching with direct supervision in a classroom setting, and opportunities to receive evaluation and support in development of instructional skills, as well as the benefit of the experiences and skills of other participants in a learning environment. Disaster Frontline Supervisor Basic Course
This course prepares participants to function effectively as Disaster Services supervisors. Prerequisites: The basic or intermediate disaster course for the activity in which the applicant expects to become a supervisor. Experience as a worker in the activity in which the applicant expects to become a supervisor.
Disaster Services Overview Basic Course
Provides fundamental information about disasters, the community response, and the role of Red Cross Disaster Services. Prerequisite: Interview with Volunteer Coordinator required prior to course enrollment.
Emergency Operations Center (EOC) Basic Course
The purpose of this course is to prepare Red Cross employees and volunteers who will be assigned to government and emergency settings to work collaboratively with Red Cross partners, helping to ensure a coordinated response that result in effective service delivery. Prerequisites: Disaster Services Overview, Collaborating to Ensure Effective Service Delivery.
ERV: Ready, Set, Roll Basic Course
Required for driving the Emergency Response Vehicle (ERV) on local and national disaster operations. Self-study followed by some classroom instruction and driving practice. Prerequisites: Disaster Services Overview, Defensive Driving, and a valid driver’s license with clean driving record, capacity to lift 50 pounds, and minimum age 21.
Financial & Statistical Information Management Basic Course
The purpose of this basic-level Disaster Services course is to prepare Red Cross volunteers and employees to perform the tasks of a Financial & Statistical Information Management (FSI) service associate on a disaster relief operation. Also available as a self-study. Prerequisites: Disaster Services Overview, Client Casework: Providing Emergency Assistance
Foundations of Disaster Mental Health Basic Course
The purpose of this course is to prepare licensed mental health professionals to provide for and respond to the ps ychological needs of people across the continuum of disaster preparedness, response and recovery. Prerequisite: current state license. Disaster Services Overview and Client Casework are recommended.
Fundamentals of Disaster Assessment Basic Course
Prepares American Red Cross workers to obtain and report disaster assessment information from a variety of sources, and become familiar with how disaster assessment information supports management and service delivery decisions. This is a blended learning class with a portion online and a portion in the classroom. Prerequisite: Disaster Services Overview
Health Services Response Workshop Basic Course
The purpose of this class is to prepare licensed or certified health professionals to work in the chapter or nationally and function within the Health Services Protocols. Prerequisite: Valid license or certificate, Disaster Services Overview
Logistics: Overview and Simulation Basic Course
Hel ps participants identify supply and logistics preparedness measures; prepares workers to carry out the Material Support Services group activities during a disaster. Prerequisite: Disaster Services Overview
Mass Casualty Basic Course
The purpose of this course is to prepare Red Cross employees and volunteers to provide a more effective initial response to a mass casualty disaster. Prerequisites: Disaster Services Overview, Additionally, participants must have responded to a large disaster either within their community or preferably on a DSHR assignment.
Psychological First Aid Basic Course
The purpose of this course is to prepare Red Cross workers to provide basic care, comfort and support to people who are experiencing disaster-related stress. Prerequisite: Disaster Services Overview
Shelter Operations and Shelter Simulation Basic Course
Prepares Red Cross workers to effectively and sensitively manage shelter operations as a team and to meet the needs of people displaced as a result of a disaster. Prerequisites: Disaster Services Overview
Weapons of Mass Destruction Basic Course
The course is designed to provide basic information about the issues and safety concerns in performing our work in an environment involving a Weapons of Mass Destruction and/or Terrorism (WMD/T) incident. Prerequisites: Disaster Services Overview
